AIR ABRASION ( MINIMAL INTERVENTION DENTISTRY )


Air abrasion is a minimally invasive, non-selective dental operative technique in use since 1945 for the removal of extrinsic stain, sound and carious enamel and dentine during cavity preparation.. Air-abrasion unit has a 90 degree nozzle with a 0.6 mm internal diameter. It can be used at 60 psi air pressure, and a working distance of 15 mm, with an inclination of 30 – 45 degree .

Usually Aluminum oxide particle is used but recently Bio active glass have also been used . The particle size ranges from  10 – 50 MICROMETER.
